How do I add my new Arlo Pro system to my existing Arlo Wire-Free system?

Arlo Wire-Free and Arlo Pro cameras and base stations are completely compatible with one another. In most cases, you can install your new Arlo Pro system without making any changes to your existing Arlo Wire-Free system.

You only need to remove your older Wire-Free products from your Arlo account in the following three cases:

If none of these cases apply to you, you can set up your new Arlo Pro system, create new modes for it, and use both systems at the same time. You can sync a mix of Arlo Pro and Arlo Wire-Free cameras to each base station to suit your needs. For example, you can keep your Arlo Pro Wire-Free cameras inside and leave them plugged into an AC power source while your Arlo Wire-Free cameras stay outside.

You are already using the maximum number of cameras allowed in your Arlo subscription plan or your new system has enough additional cameras to exceed the maximum

The Basic plan allows you to have up to five cameras on your account. The Premier plan allows a maximum of 10 cameras, and the Elite plan allows a maximum of 15 cameras. If you already have the maximum number of cameras synced to your account and you want to add new cameras, you must either upgrade your subscription plan or remove old cameras. You must remove one old camera for each new camera that you want to add.

If the combined total number of cameras from your old and new systems is greater than the maximum allowed by your subscription plan, you must either upgrade your subscription plan or remove enough existing cameras from your account that you can add the new cameras without exceeding the maximum allowed by your plan.

Your router has no available ports

If you need another port for your new Arlo Pro base station, you have three options:

  1. You can plug your new Arlo Pro base station into a WiFi range extender or an Orbi Satellite to cover a different part of your property.
For more information about covering a large or unusually shaped property with multiple base stations, see How can I increase the range of my Arlo Smart Home Security system?.
  2. You can install a switch that plugs into your router and provides additional ports.
  3. You can sync both your existing cameras and your new cameras to one of your base stations. You can either remove your Arlo base station from your account and sync all your cameras to the Arlo Pro base station, or you can sync your new Arlo Pro cameras to your existing base station. If you want to continue to use your existing modes, use your existing Arlo base station. If you want to use the new features of the Arlo Pro base station—siren and USB local backup storage—use the new Arlo Pro base station.
WARNING: Removing your base station from your account deletes all modes and settings on the base station and removes all synced cameras from your account.

You do not want to use your existing Arlo system anymore

If you bought your new Arlo Pro system as a complete replacement for your Arlo system, you must disarm your existing Arlo system and remove the base station from your account. Removing the base station from your account also removes the cameras that are synced to the base station. Then you can set up your Arlo Pro system as a new system. You can also sync your existing Arlo Wire-Free cameras to your new Arlo Pro base station, up to the maximum number of cameras supported by your subscription plan.

WARNING: All modes and settings on your existing base station and cameras are erased as soon as you remove the devices from your account. If you want to add a deactivated device back to your account, you must complete the setup process again.
