How do I create a mode for my Arlo Baby camera?

You can change your Arlo Baby’s motion and audio detection settings in two ways:

  • You can edit your settings manually from the live camera feed in the Devices page.
  • You can create custom modes that you enable and disable from the Mode menu.

If you change your Arlo Baby’s motion and audio detection settings frequently, creating a custom mode can save you time by making it easier to switch between different settings profiles.

To create a new mode:

  1. Launch the Arlo app or log in to your Arlo account at
  2. If you want Arlo Baby to monitor for motion only in certain sections of the camera’s field of view (such as the crib), you must create activity zones before you create a mode that uses those zones.
For more information about creating activity zones, see What are activity zones and how do I create them for my Arlo Q, Arlo Q Plus, or Arlo Baby camera?.
  3. Tap or click Mode.
  4. Tap or click your Arlo Baby.
  5. Tap or click Add a Mode.
  6. Enter a name for the mode and tap or click Next.
    The Trigger Device page displays.
  7. Select your Arlo Baby and tap or click Next.
Note: If you have just one device, your device is preselected.
  8. If you want Arlo Baby to perform an action when motion, audio, or motion and audio are detected, tap or click Next.
Otherwise, clear the check box for the trigger that you do not want to use.
  9. Set the motion sensitivity and the motion detection zones.
You can use the sliders to adjust the sensitivity of the motion sensor. The higher the motion sensitivity, the more likely the camera is to detect motion that is farther away from the camera.
  10. If you are using the Arlo app, tap or click Next.
  11. Move the slider to set Arlo Baby’s audio sensitivity and tap or click Next.
The lower the audio sensitivity, the louder a noise must be to trigger the camera to capture video.
  12. When prompted, specify what you want your device to do when motion or audio is detected and tap or click Next.
Note: You can select Record videoTake snapshot, or Do nothing.
  13. When prompted, specify how long you want your device to record for when motion or audio is detected and tap or click Next.
  14. Select the notifications that you want to receive and tap or click Next.
  15. Enter the email addresses where you want alerts to be sent and tap or click Next.
    The Summary page displays.
  16. Review your settings and tap or click Save.
Your new mode is saved. You can enable it from the Mode menu.
