How do I position my Arlo Security Light and Arlo Bridge?

When positioning your Arlo Security Light, keep the following tips in mind:

  • Keep active locations in the detection zone. Position your Arlo Security Light so that the space you want to monitor is within the motion detection zone.
  • Elevate your Arlo Security Lights. Mount your Arlo Security Light  6 - 8 feet (2 meters) above the floor and aim it slightly downward (approximately 15 degrees of tilt) to maximize light beam coverage and motion sensing range.
  • Make sure that side-to-side traffic crosses the detection zone. Your Arlo Security Light’s motion sensor is more sensitive to side-to-side movement across its field of view than to movement directly toward or away from your light. The best area for motion detection is 5 to 20 feet (1.5 to 6 meters) from your Arlo Security Light’s position.

When positioning your Arlo Bridge, keep the following tips in mind:

  • Place your bridge indoors only. Your Arlo Bridge is not weather resistant.
  • After you place your lights, move your bridge until you find a location that optimizes the signal between your lights and your bridge. You can use the range finder test to make sure that the distance is optimal. For more information, see How can I tell if my Arlo Security Light is within range of my Arlo Bridge?.
  • Make sure that your bridge is within range of your WiFi router.
  • Place your bridge in a location where each light is about the same distance from the bridge.
  • Elevate your bridge by plugging it into an outlet that is located above ground level, such as a countertop outlet. If your home has two floors, place your Arlo Bridge on the second floor to increase its range.
  • Do not plug the bridge into a power outlet, power strip, or extension cord that is on the floor.
  • Try to minimize the number of walls between your bridge and your lights. Thick or insulated walls can reduce the range.
  • You can expand the coverage zone around your home or property by adding an extra Arlo Bridge (sold separately). For example, you could use one Arlo Bridge to control your front yard lights and another Arlo Bridge for the back yard lights. Each Arlo Bridge has a range of up to 100 feet.
