New Arlo Secure Plan FAQ

This article applies to:

Arlo Secure

In 2021, we introduced Arlo Secure, our new service plan with unlimited cameras and reduced plan complexity. Arlo Secure maximizes your security and delivers personalized alerts, so you can take quicker action.

How is Arlo Secure different from Arlo Smart?

Arlo Secure is a new and improved version of Arlo Smart. Arlo Secure offers unlimited camera plans*, which means you can add cameras at any time without any added cost. For US subscribers, Arlo Secure Plus has a new premium Emergency Response feature. Like Arlo Smart, Arlo Secure also includes advanced AI object detection, cloud activity zones, longer and higher resolution cloud recordings, and smart notifications.

Note: *Unlimited camera support plans apply only to Arlo cameras at a single residential location and on the same Arlo account.

Why did Arlo make these changes?

Many customers requested unlimited camera plans, and we regularly update our plans based on customer feedback. Arlo Secure plans are simpler to understand and easier to choose.

I have Arlo Smart Premier or Arlo Smart Elite and I want to keep it. Is this possible?

Yes.  Arlo Smart plan users can keep their current plan. You don’t need to do anything differently, and you’re free to stay on your Smart plan for as long as you need.

How much does Arlo Secure cost, and what plans are available?

Arlo Secure offers competitive pricing plans. For more information on pricing in your location, visit What are the available Arlo subscription plans and how much cloud recording is available?

Can I set up a new Arlo Smart subscription?

After the introduction of Arlo Secure, we will not accept new signups for Arlo Smart. Arlo is maintaining Arlo Smart services for current plan subscribers, but all new plan subscribers must choose a new Arlo Secure plan.

I’m on an Arlo Smart trial now. What happens when it expires?

You have the option to let the trial expire or purchase an Arlo Secure plan. New Arlo Smart plans aren’t available for purchase after the 2021 launch of Arlo Secure.

Can I switch from Arlo Smart to an Arlo Secure plan?

Yes. After you switch to a new Arlo Secure plan, you cannot repurchase an Arlo Smart plan. Learn more in our article, How do I subscribe to Arlo Secure?

I’m an Arlo Smart subscriber. What if I want to add an Arlo Secure plan to my account?

You can keep your Arlo Smart plan, but if you want to make any changes, you’ll need to move over to a Secure plan. You can’t mix and match features between plans.

I prefer to stay on my Arlo Smart plan. What features do I have?

You can stay on your current plan. Although we won’t accept new Arlo Smart signups after we launch Arlo Secure, the following features are still supported for current Smart subscribers.

I have an Arlo Smart Premier single-camera plan, and I want to buy an Arlo Secure single-camera plan for my new 2K camera. How does this work?

It’s not possible to mix and match Secure and Smart plans on the same account. You’ll need to switch your existing Smart plan to an Arlo Secure plan. For instructions on switching your cameras to Arlo Secure, visit How do I change or cancel my Arlo subscription plan?

I have an Arlo Smart Elite single-camera plan and I’d like to add an additional 4K camera to my subscription. What’s the best way to do this?

We no longer have the 4K single camera plan. We have an updated plan called Arlo Secure Plus, which has unlimited cameras per location and 4K support for all compatible cameras. For instructions on adding Arlo Secure Plus to your 4K cameras, visit How do I change or cancel my Arlo subscription plan?.

I have one camera on an Arlo Smart trial and another camera on an Arlo Secure trial. What happens when the trials expire?

After your trial expires, you can sign up for Arlo Secure or Arlo Secure Plus. Although it’s not possible to mix and match Secure and Smart plans, Arlo Secure offers premium features like unlimited cameras. For instructions on signing up for Arlo Secure, visit How do I change or cancel my Arlo subscription plan?

Can I use an unlimited plan for cameras at multiple locations?

Our unlimited plans apply to cameras placed at a single physical location. Our single- camera plans and Business plans support cameras placed in different locations. Here's some more information on our plans: What options will I have when my Arlo trial ends?

Why do I need a plan?

In addition to cloud recording, Arlo plans also have smart AI features, which help your camera identify what it sees and hears. This gives you more information in your notifications and library and helps you filter out unwanted alerts. As a subscriber, you'll receive rich notifications when your camera detects motion. Rich notifications provide more context for what the camera detected and displays an animated preview. You can save time in understanding what your camera detected - all from the lock screen of your phone. Rich notifications also have buttons for one-tap access to Mute Notifications, Activate Siren, Emergency Response, and Call a Friend.

If you don't have a plan, your camera can still record to local storage on the hub or base station via SD card or USB storage device, live stream, and receive basic motion detection notifications.

What’s the difference between activity notifications for subscribers and non-subscribers?
Here’s what activity notifications look like if you don’t have a subscription plan:

Here’s what activity notifications look like if you have Arlo Secure:
