How do I connect my Arlo camera to Apple HomeKit?

With Apple HomeKit and a compatible Arlo device, you can use voice commands to access and control multiple Arlo cameras from one place. What you need

You must be on the same WiFi network as your Arlo SmartHub or base station when you first connect Arlo to HomeKit. After your Arlo device is added to HomeKit, you must have an Apple home hub to access your Arlo devices on HomeKit when outside your local network. You need the following to use Arlo with Apple HomeKit:

  • An Arlo Ultra, Essential Video Doorbell (Wired), Pro 4, Pro 3, Pro 3 Floodlight Camera, Pro 2, or Pro camera
  • The Apple Home app
  • The Arlo app
  • An Arlo Base Station (VMB5000, VMB4540, VMB4500, or VMB4000)
    Note: To use HomeKit, your Arlo device must be connected to an Arlo SmartHub or base station. You can’t use HomeKit with your Arlo device if the device is connected directly to a WiFi router.
  • The following base station firmware version or newer:
    • VMB5000: 1.14.0.9_137_8e45094
    • VMB4540: 1.15.0.2_371_f7780e1
    • VMB4500: 1.14.0.2_2777
    • VMB4000: 1.14.0.2_2776

Connect Arlo to the Apple Home App

You can connect your Arlo camera to the Apple Home app in two ways:

  • With a HomeKit setup code on the base station or camera.
  • Without a HomeKit setup code.

To set up an Arlo camera with a setup code:

  1. Set up your Arlo camera and base station with the Arlo app.

  2. Launch the Apple Home app.
  3. Tap + > Add Accessory.
  4. Scan the HomeKit setup code on your base station or quick start guide.
  5. Follow the setup flow to name cameras and place them in HomeKit rooms.
    Your devices are ready to use with HomeKit.

To setup an Arlo camera without a setup code:

  1. Launch the Arlo app on your Apple device.
  2. Tap Settings > My Devices.
  3. Select an Arlo base station.
  4. Tap HomeKit.
  5. Select the base station you want to add to HomeKit.
  6. Select a Home or tap Add New Home.
    If you don’t have a Home set up in the Arlo app, you are directed to create a Home.
  7. Select a Room or tap Add a New Room.
    If you don’t have a Room set up in the Arlo app, you are directed to create a Room.
  8. Tap Continue to add devices to HomeKit to add cameras or additional base stations.
  9. Continue through the setup flows to confirm the name and room placement for each device.
    Note: The name that you give each device is used for Siri commands. Choose a unique name that is easy to remember and pronounce.
  10. Confirm the name of the device.
  11. Tap Skip, or rename any other devices as needed.
  12. Tap Finish.
    Your devices are ready to use with HomeKit.
