When you first set up your Arlo camera, you have the option to connect the camera directly to your Wi-Fi router or to an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station. You can use the Arlo Secure App to connect directly to your Wi-Fi router.

To move your Arlo camera from an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station connection to a Wi-Fi router connection, visit: How do I connect my Arlo device directly to my Wi-Fi router if it is currently connected to a SmartHub or Base Station?

Note: When your Arlo camera is disconnected from an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station, you can no longer store Arlo recordings to a local storage device.

Before you begin:

• Your mobile device must be connected to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, and you must connect your Arlo camera to the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network.

• Arlo Pro 5 cameras must be installed on a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi first before connecting to a 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. If the SSID and password are the same for your 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks, the camera will automatically join both networks during installation.

• Band Steering automatically connects your devices to the best available Wi-Fi frequency in your home. Most Wi-Fi modems come with two frequencies (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) and ask you to choose between them when connecting a device to your home network.
  • Disable Band Steering prior to installing your Arlo device.
  • Upon successful installation and setup, you can re-enable Band Steering.
    Note: Contact your router manufacturer for specific Band Steering instructions

To connect your Arlo camera directly to your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network:

1. Launch the Arlo Secure App.
2. Tap Devices.
3. Tap
4. Select your Arlo device.
5. Select your Arlo model.
6. Follow the in-app instructions.
7. If Arlo detects that you have an Arlo SmartHub or Base Station, tap Connect without SmartHub.
8. Tap Continue on the Connect to a 2.4 GHz network screen.
9. Enter your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi SSID and Password.
10. Follow the in-app instructions to finish setting up your device.
